Accounting and Controlling

This course is an introduction to the subject of accounting and controlling. It will allow students to understand main concepts, tools and their application. The main focus will be on financial accounting. Generally, accounting links business activities and decision makers and provides information for internal and external decision makers. With financial reporting being the language of business the aim of this course is to equip students with the skills necessary to communicate in this language at a professional level.

Since 2014, Tami Dinh has been Full Professor for Accounting at the University of St.Gallen. Before that, she worked as a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in the School of Accounting at UNSW Australia, Sydney for several years. Her Chair’s objective is to provide an international perspective on Accounting. Both her research activities and teaching approach benefit from her strong ties with academics around the world. In her research, she focuses on international accounting and financial accounting, particularly intangible assets and IFRS adoption, analysing empirical archival data. Current research projects on incentive contract choices further comprise behavioural/psychological effects, using experimental research designs. She regularly presents her work at international conferences and has published in leading international journals such as e.g., European Accounting Review and Accounting & Finance. Professor Dinh is further engaging with practitioners on joint projects, e.g. with UBS on IFRS 9 Financial Instruments.
